LPG Gas Complaint — Emergency Number, Helplines and Distributor Escalation
One emergency number and one complaint line cover Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas alike. What differs is the portal and the distributor — and the distributor is where almost every real complaint has to be settled.
- Who to contact first
- For a leak, the emergency helpline immediately. For anything else, your LPG distributor first — the agency you book from — and then the oil marketing company above it.
- How to reach them
- Dial 1906 for a gas leak, at any hour. For a service complaint, the common toll-free line 1800-2333-555 serves Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas, and each company also runs its own portal.
- How long to wait
- A leak is an emergency and is not a complaint — treat it as such. For service complaints, no single national redress period is published across the three companies.
- If they ignore you
- Escalate above the distributor to the oil marketing company’s area or regional office, then its nodal grievance channel. Overcharging above the notified retail price is worth stating explicitly, because the price is fixed and the distributor is not free to vary it.
Official source · last verified 1 September 2026 — Indane, Bharatgas, HP Gas — toll free number for LPG complaints, National Portal of India. GetNyay is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any government department.
If you can smell gas, stop reading and act: close the regulator knob, do not switch anything on or off, do not light anything, open the doors and windows, get everyone out, and call 1906 from outside. Electrical switches spark. Only once everyone is safe does any of the complaint machinery below matter. 1906 is the all-India LPG emergency number and works for Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas alike.

Every channel below was read on an official page. Contact details change — the source for each is linked in the verification footer at the end of this page.
The escalation ladder, level by level
Work through these in order. Every forum above asks what you did below, and skipping a rung is the commonest reason a complaint is sent back.
- 1LPG distributor / gas agencyWait Not published nationally
Your LPG distributor — the agency you book refills from.
Your consumer number, the booking reference, the date, and what went wrong. Ask for a complaint number; a distributor complaint with no reference cannot be escalated.
- 2Indane (IndianOil) · HP Gas (HPCL) · Bharat Gas (BPCL)Wait Not published as one national figure
The oil marketing company, through its toll-free line or its own portal.
1800-2333-555 common line, plus each company’s portal
The distributor name and code, the consumer number, and the distributor complaint reference. Say plainly that the distributor did not resolve it.
- 3Area / Regional Office of the oil marketing companyWait Not published
The company’s area or regional office, and its nodal grievance channel.
Both earlier references and the relief sought — a delivery, a refund of an overcharge, a replaced cylinder, or action against the distributor.
- 4CPGRAMS · District Consumer CommissionWait CPGRAMS 21 days; consumer complaint two years from the cause of action
CPGRAMS, and the consumer commission where you want money back.
pgportal.gov.in · e-jagriti.gov.in
The cash memo showing what you were charged, and the notified price for that date if the complaint is overcharging.
Find your state’s grievance system
There is no single national number. The grievance system, phone, filing and tracking columns are filled in for 9 major states whose official pages we have read — a blank means we have not verified it, not that nothing exists.
The nodal grievance officer below each row is published by the Government of India for all 37 States and Union Territories, so that column is complete.

The helpline, portal, filing and tracking columns come from each state’s own official page, linked in the Last verified column — the central register is never used as evidence for a state helpline number. The nodal officer columns are reproduced from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances register, pgportal.gov.in. Officers are transferred — address correspondence to the designation, not the name. GetNyay is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any government department.
How the process runs
- 1Complain to the distributor first
The agency named on your subscription voucher is the responsible party for delivery, weight, price and cylinder condition. Give your consumer number and get a complaint reference.
then: if the distributor does not resolve it - 2Take it to the oil marketing company
On 1800-2333-555, or through your company’s own portal. Quote the distributor name and code and the earlier reference.
then: if the company route stalls - 3Area or regional office
The company tier above the distributor, which appoints and can act against the agency.
then: if you want money back rather than the service - 4Consumer commission
LPG is a paid service. Short delivery, overcharging above the notified price and refusal of supply are all deficiency in service, at e-Jagriti within two years.
What this system will not take up
Filing one of these wastes the whole period — it is closed on that ground alone.
- Anything pending before a court.
- Piped natural gas (PNG) supplied by a city gas distributor — a different service with a different regulator route.
- A dispute with a private appliance seller or a stove mechanic, which is not the LPG distributor.
- A claim for compensation, which the distributor and the company cannot award — that is the consumer commission.
What to have ready before you complain
Assemble these first. A complaint that opens with the identifying numbers gets routed; one that opens with how long this has been going on gets a template reply.
- Your LPG consumer number, which is printed on the subscription voucher and every refill invoice.
- The distributor name and code — the agency you actually book from.
- The refill booking reference and the date it was booked.
- The cash memo or invoice for the last delivery, showing the amount charged.
- For an overcharging complaint, the notified retail price for your area on that date.
- Photographs of a damaged cylinder, a broken seal, or a leaking regulator.
- The complaint or Service Request number issued when you first complained.

Common complaints handled here
Who runs this, and who is above it
Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India
Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas are the LPG brands of IndianOil, HPCL and BPCL — public sector oil marketing companies under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Your distributor is an appointed agency, not the company itself, which is why a complaint about a distributor is escalated to the company rather than settled by the distributor alone.

Frequently asked questions
What is the LPG gas leak emergency number?
1906, at any hour, anywhere in India, for Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas alike. Before calling, close the regulator knob, avoid touching any electrical switch, open the doors and windows and get everyone out of the room — then call from outside. A leak is an emergency and should never be filed as an ordinary service complaint.
What is the common LPG complaint number for all gas companies?
The National Portal of India lists a common toll-free number, 1800-2333-555, for LPG complaints across Indane, Bharatgas and HP Gas. That is unusual and useful: you do not need to know which company runs your agency to raise a complaint. Each company also runs its own portal, and your distributor remains the first place to complain about delivery or price.
My distributor charged more than the printed price. What can I do?
Say so explicitly, because LPG retail price is notified and the distributor is not free to vary it. Keep the cash memo showing what you were charged, note the notified price for your area on that date, and complain first to the distributor, then to the company. Overcharging is also straightforward deficiency in service at a consumer commission, where you can recover the excess.
The delivery man insisted I buy a pipe or a stove. Is that allowed?
Tying a refill delivery to the purchase of an accessory is a complaint worth making in exactly those words, to the distributor and then to the oil marketing company, because it is the company that appoints the agency and can act against it. Note the date, the delivery person and what you were told, and keep the cash memo.
How do I complain about my gas agency itself?
To the oil marketing company above it — the distributor is an appointed agency, not the company. Use the common complaint line or the company’s own portal, give the distributor name and code from your subscription voucher, and describe the conduct rather than only the incident. Filing on CPGRAMS in parallel adds a 21-day norm and a 30-day appeal.
Can I claim compensation for an undelivered or underweight cylinder?
Not from the distributor complaint process, which delivers the service or explains. Compensation is a consumer commission matter, and LPG is squarely a paid service, so short delivery, overcharging or refusal of supply is deficiency in service. No filing fee where the consideration paid is up to ₹5 lakh, within two years of the cause of action.
