iGuideline Summary
The Telecom Consumers Complaint Redressal Regulations, 2012 give a subscriber two tiers: the operator's Complaint Centre, which issues a docket number, and then that operator's own Appellate Authority. The 2012 regulations did away with the older Nodal Officer tier. VAS (Value Added Services) can only be activated with explicit double opt-in consent. TRAI sets the framework and acts on an operator's systemic failures, but it does not decide an individual subscriber's billing, refund or service dispute.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I stop unwanted VAS charges on my mobile?
Send STOP to your operator's VAS opt-out number, or call customer care. Operators cannot charge for VAS without double opt-in. File complaint for past unauthorized charges. TRAI VAS regulations.
My MNP request is taking too long — what can I do?
MNP should complete within the period TRAI’s porting regulations allow. If it is delayed, complain to the new operator’s Complaint Centre and then appeal to that operator’s Appellate Authority. Check the official source for current MNP timelines.
How do I escalate a telecom complaint?
Complain to your operator's Complaint Centre first and note the docket number. If it is not resolved within the period the operator publishes for that class of complaint, appeal to the operator's own Appellate Authority, quoting the docket number. Those are the two tiers the 2012 regulations provide. TRAI itself does not decide the dispute, so for a refund or compensation the forum is the District Consumer Commission.
Can I claim compensation for poor network service?
TRAI's quality-of-service regulations set standards an operator must meet, but TRAI does not award compensation to an individual subscriber. Document the outage and the docket numbers, put the complaint through the Complaint Centre and then the Appellate Authority, and take the claim for money to the District Consumer Commission.
What is the TDSAT and when should I approach them?
TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement Tribunal) handles disputes between consumers and telecom service providers where TRAI redressal is inadequate. It's a quasi-judicial body. Check the official source for jurisdiction and filing requirements.
