Review methodology

A page marked “Editor checked against primary sources” has been read line by line against the source that governs it — the bare Act or Rules on India Code, the gazette notification, the regulator’s own circular, the court’s own copy of a judgment, or the government portal the page describes. Where a figure, a deadline or a form number appears, it was taken from that source and not from another website.

The person who does this is Deepak Middha, Founder and Editor of GetNyay and a Chartered Accountant. He can rewrite, correct or delete anything on the site, and he is the one accountable for what it says. What he is not is a lawyer, and nothing here is written as though he were.

The check covers four things, because these are what a reader acts on:

• Figures — fees, monetary limits, interest rates, penalties, unit conversions — traced to the notification or rule that sets them.
• Time limits — the period, what starts it, and the provision it comes from.
• Names and numbers — the section, form, portal or office, in the form the authority itself uses.
• Whether the provision is still in force, including renumbering and repeal.

Where a source contradicts another source, the page says so and shows both, rather than choosing the tidier answer silently. Where nothing citable could be found, the page leaves the claim out — the land-area converter, for example, refuses to convert a unit no government or court source fixes, instead of publishing a plausible number.

Tax content, which is reviewed on a credential

Income-tax pages carry a second, narrower claim: they are reviewed by Deepak Middha, Chartered Accountant (ICAI membership no. 125458), against the Act, the Rules and the department’s own forms. That membership number is published because it is what makes the claim checkable. That review attaches to tax content only, and to nothing else on the site.

Three other things are never reviewed, and should not be treated as though they were:

• Documents you generate. A draft you produce from a template or generator is assembled from what you typed, the moment you press the button. Nobody reads it. It is a starting point, not advice, and the facts, dates and amounts in it are yours to check.
• Anything a third party controls. Government portals change their menus, fees and addresses without notice. A page describing a portal was accurate on the date it states.
• AI-assisted drafting before a human reads it. AI is used to draft and structure material on this site; no page is published from it unreviewed. That review is described in the editorial policy.

A page is re-checked when there is a reason to, and the date it was last checked is printed on it. Four things trigger a re-check:

1. The law moves — a new Act, an amendment, a renumbering, a repeal, or a judgment that changes the position. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita renumbering and the Income-tax Act, 2025 renumbering both forced passes across whole clusters.
2. A fee, limit or rate is revised by notification.
3. A reader tells us something is wrong, which is the fastest route and the one we act on first.
4. A scheduled pass over a cluster, usually when it is being extended anyway.

Corrections are made on the page itself rather than noted at the bottom, and the checked date is moved. Where a correction changes what a reader should do, the page says what changed.

We read every one. Where the page is wrong on a figure, a date or a provision, it is corrected as a priority, because someone may be about to act on it. Where the position is genuinely contested, the page is changed to show the conflict rather than to assert one side.
