SEBI SCORES Complaint — Investor Grievance Filing and Review
SCORES 2.0 gives an investor something unusual: a fixed 21-day timeline and a second review by SEBI itself if the first answer does not satisfy you.
- Who to contact first
- SEBI, through SCORES — for complaints against SEBI-regulated entities: listed companies, registered intermediaries and market infrastructure institutions.
- How to reach them
- Lodge at scores.sebi.gov.in or on the SCORES mobile app. You receive a unique registration number.
- How long to wait
- SCORES 2.0 sets a 21-calendar-day redressal timeline, with two levels of review — the Designated Body first, then SEBI on a second review if you remain dissatisfied.
- If they ignore you
- Beyond the second review, the securities market’s online dispute resolution route and the ordinary civil and consumer remedies remain available.
Official source · last verified 2 September 2026 — SEBI SCORES — SEBI Complaint Redress System. GetNyay is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any government department.
SCORES exists for a SEBI-regulated entity failing in its obligations — funds not transferred, unauthorised trades, a dividend not paid, a transfer not completed. It is not a route for recovering money lost because a share fell, an IPO did not list at a premium, or advice turned out badly. Complaints of that kind are closed, and the time spent is lost. Ask yourself what the entity did wrong, separately from what the market did.

The escalation ladder, level by level
Work through these in order. Every forum above asks what you did below, and skipping a rung is the commonest reason a complaint is sent back.

How the process runs
- 1Complain to the entity first
The broker, listed company, registrar or depository participant. Keep its reference.
then: if unresolved - 2Lodge on SCORES
At scores.sebi.gov.in or on the app. You receive a unique registration number and can track in real time.
then: 21 calendar days - 3First review by the Designated Body
The first of the two review levels SCORES 2.0 provides.
then: if you are dissatisfied - 4Second review by SEBI
SEBI itself reviews the answer. Explain what the first review failed to address rather than restating the complaint.
What this system will not take up
Filing one of these wastes the whole period — it is closed on that ground alone.
- Investment losses caused by market movement.
- Anything pending before a court or tribunal.
- Complaints against entities SEBI does not regulate — an unregistered advisor or an app-based scheme.
- A dispute purely between two investors.
What to have ready before you complain
Assemble these first. A complaint that opens with the identifying numbers gets routed; one that opens with how long this has been going on gets a template reply.
- Your client code, folio number or demat account number.
- The contract note or transaction statement for the trade in dispute.
- The entity’s own grievance reference and its reply.
- Bank statements showing funds paid in or expected out.
- The unique registration number SCORES issues, once lodged.
- Correspondence with the broker or company in date order.

Who runs this, and who is above it
Securities and Exchange Board of India
SCORES covers complaints against SEBI-regulated entities — listed companies, registered intermediaries such as brokers and registrars, and market infrastructure institutions. It does not cover an investment loss caused by the market moving against you, which is not a grievance however painful. The distinction between a bad outcome and a regulated entity’s failure is the one to get right before filing.

Frequently asked questions
What is SEBI SCORES and who can use it?
SCORES is SEBI’s complaint redress system, at scores.sebi.gov.in, where investors lodge grievances against SEBI-regulated entities — listed companies, registered intermediaries such as brokers and registrars, and market infrastructure institutions. SEBI introduced SCORES 2.0 in April 2024, with a mobile app alongside the portal and a unique registration number for real-time tracking.
How long does SEBI SCORES take?
SCORES 2.0 sets a 21-calendar-day redressal timeline, which is unusually specific among Indian grievance systems. There are also two levels of review: the Designated Body reviews first, and if you remain dissatisfied SEBI undertakes a second review. That second review is a genuine safeguard and is worth using rather than abandoning the complaint.
Can I use SCORES to recover money I lost on a share?
No. SCORES addresses a regulated entity failing in its obligations, not the market moving against you. A share that fell, an IPO that did not list at a premium, or advice that proved wrong are not grievances, and complaints of that kind are closed. Ask what the broker or company actually did wrong — failed to transfer, traded without authority, withheld a dividend — and complain about that.
What is the SEBI investor helpline number?
SEBI publishes toll-free numbers 1800 22 7575 and 1800 266 7575 for investor assistance. They are useful for questions about the process and about whether your matter belongs on SCORES at all — which is worth asking before filing, since a misdirected complaint costs three weeks.
Do I have to complain to my broker before using SCORES?
Yes, in practice. SCORES works on the basis that the regulated entity has had the chance to resolve the matter, so lodge the complaint with the broker, company or registrar first and keep its reference and reply. A SCORES complaint that quotes the entity’s own inadequate answer is far stronger than one that arrives without that history.
Is SCORES free?
Yes. Lodging a complaint, tracking it and both levels of review cost nothing, and no intermediary is required. Treat anyone offering to file or expedite a SCORES complaint for a fee with suspicion — the process is designed to be used directly by investors.

What we deliberately left blank (3)
- — The identity of the Designated Body for a given complaint type, which depends on the entity complained against.
- — Fees and procedure for securities market online dispute resolution, which are set out separately.
- — The SCORES portal was not opened directly when this page was built; the timeline and review structure are corroborated from SEBI-attributed material.
